Why doesn’t the BlueSky Classic Timer join my Zoom meeting?
In some Zoom meetings, the BlueSky Classic Timer may fail to join or leave the meeting immediately after attempting to connect. This can happen when a Zoom meeting disclaimer or agreement prompt is enabled.
A disclaimer functions similarly to a waiting room, because participants must accept/acknowledge the prompt before fully joining the meeting. Since the Classic Timer joins automatically as a participant, it cannot accept this prompt and therefore cannot complete the join process.
What happens when this occurs?
When a disclaimer is enabled in your Zoom meeting:
- The Classic Timer attempts to join the meeting.
- Zoom presents the disclaimer acceptance screen.
- Because the timer cannot interact with the prompt, it times out or leaves the meeting.
This behavior is similar to when the Classic Timer joins a meeting with a waiting room enabled but is not admitted by the host.
How to resolve this
To allow the Classic Timer to join successfully, you can temporarily disable the disclaimer before the meeting starts.
Option 1: Disable the Zoom disclaimer
- Sign in to your Zoom account settings.
- Locate the Disclaimer or agreement prompt setting.
- Disable the disclaimer for the meeting.
- Start your meeting and launch the BlueSky Classic Timer.
Option 2: Use a timer that runs within the Zoom app
The new BlueSky timer app run inside the Zoom desktop client, rather than joining as a participant. These timers are not affected by disclaimers.
To use them after installing:
- Start your Zoom meeting.
- Click Apps in the Zoom toolbar.
- Select the BlueSky Timer app.
- Start the timer from the app interface.
Additional notes
- Zoom Apps currently work only on the Zoom desktop client.
- Participants joining from mobile or browser clients may not see app-based timers.
- The Classic Timer, when functioning normally, appears as a participant in the meeting, whilst the new Timer displays in the user.
